Birkenhead based construction safety specialist Innov8 Safety Solutions has signed a new deal with Peel Ports Mersey to implement a vigorous 12 month construction health and safety programme.
Innov8’s managing director Alan Robson said the health and safety campaign will see it support around 100 different construction projects at the port and along Manchester Ship Canal. In total Innov8 will work with more than 130 of Peel Ports’ contractors, suppliers and consultants. The aim is to reinforce Peel Ports’ commitment to the highest standards of competence in site safety.
Mr Robson said he is enormously excited to work on the contract.
This is a terrific contract to win and it really showcases the depth of expertise we offer to the construction industry. The idea was developed with Peel Ports as an eye catching engaging initiative which will proactively promote safety. Peel Ports is passionate about safety and this campaign will ensure that contractors working on site are fully briefed on the most important aspects of site safety, from the basics of slips, trips and falls, to the necessary administration issues.
Alan Williams, head of projects at Peel Ports, said:
We recognise the hazards of our industry and this programme will ensure that the contractors, suppliers and consultants working on our capital investment projects are fully up to date and accredited to work on our sites. Innov8’s input will benefit these businesses and individuals and their welfare is paramount to Peel Ports. The Peel Ports capital projects team and safety department understand that larger organisations on our sites may be better equipped to deal with this programme than smaller contractors. Therefore the assessments will be tailored to help everyone achieve the standard of health and safety required to work within the Port of Liverpool.
Commenting on the initiative Health and Safety Executive HM Inspector of Health and Safety Ms Christina Goddard said:
HSE welcomes programmes which encourages participation between contractors and clients to improve health and safety standards. We hope that the implementation of this programme will result in improved health and safety standards for all participants.
The Port of Liverpool is Peel Ports’ largest port, handling 33m tonnes of cargo each year on both sides of the River Mersey while Manchester Ship Canal handles around 7m tonnes of cargo. There are more than 30 stakeholders working within 1,200 acres of waterside land, incorporating 4million sq ft of modern logistic facilities and bespoke commercial sites.
